    Hi Ladies
Glucophage a/k/a (also known as) Metformin
is a new medication used in disorders relating to
    blood sugar (a/k/a glucose).

Diabetes is a disorder characterized by high blood sugar.
Insulin is the hormone that regulates the blood sugar or glucose level.
Insulin allows the body to use glucose for energy/storage.
Without insulin, the glucose level builds up in the blood
and the kidneys filter and expel it into urine.

Diabetes Type I individuals require insulin injections.
Symptoms of Diabetes I: Excessive urination, great thirst,
hunger, vomitting, loss of weight and strength.

Diabetes Type II is referred to as Adult Onset Diabetes
and in many cases can be controlled by diet and exercise.

    Okay, so if:
Glucose provides energy for the body's cells but
insulin must be present for the body to use glucose.
Without insulin, glucose has difficulty entering the cells.

    To function properly,
nerve cells require a continuous supply of glucose.
Most importantly when Trying To Conceive,
the nerves carry signals that trigger hormone activity.
Thus, it would seem to be very important to keep
a consistent supply of insulin and glucose available for the nerve cells
to function properly and maintain hormone balance.

    Other things to consider:
Recurrent yeast infections may result from high blood sugar
because the microorganism that causes a yeast infection
flourishes in the presence of glucose.

Women with PCOS are very resistant to insulin.

Some women require more insulin during the luteal phase
the thought is that higher levels of progesterone
    increase the resistance to insulin
    (which might explain gestational diabetes).

    Love
    Momma Kath

Here's a success story for you Momma Kath:)

    Catherine T
Well it all began in 99 when I had my first m/c, I had been checked for PCOS 2 times before and told 'I was just fat' after the m/c I didn't get a period for over 9 months, towards the end of this period I was diagnosed with PCOS and went to an endocrinologist who put me on metformin to deal with my insulin resistance, my periods returned and I took about 6 months to get pg again(may 01) I also m/c this pg. Went then to an RE who suggested clomid to boost the quality of my ovulation and on my 2nd rd (50mg) I fell pg with Lily and to my joy this pg didn't end in m/c I had spotting at 6 & 11 wks but no cause could be found, my pg was otherwise very uneventful until the week she was born when my BP went up and showed signs of preeclampsia.

I does happen, I believe my faith in God helped me not to give up totally. Now I can hardly belive I'm responsible for this little life, but I thank God for blessing me with her.

Whether its faith or positive thinking or whatever you believe, its the hope that it will happen & I hope it happens for lots of you very soon.

Lily Elizabeth was born at 38 wks 2days weighing 6lb 7.5oz
    +++++++++++++++ thoughts

I cannot believe I am actually writing this!
I have been to this site at least 90 times in the past 90 days!
DH and I are ttc #3.
    I had a m/c in January at 19 weeks.
So it will be a while before I can relax and enjoy this pregnancy, I'm afraid!
I'll be a nervous wreck until at least week 20! This is my third cycle after m/c.

The first cycle, I did it "au natural"!
Nothing...then I said hey, I'm not getting any younger so let's help nature along!
So on Cycle 2 I started research and learned of terms such as cm, cp, temping, charts, etc.
My problem was I knew I hadn't had any EWCM during C#1.
So I purchased some EPO and took 1000mg/day as well as Robi (Guaifenesin Syrup) until o'ing. Still none! And no ++ hpts!
So this cycle, what I did differently was bump up my EPO to 3000mg/day and take 1200mg of Alfalfa
(as well as drinking tons of water). Guess what - NO EWCM!! So on the day I got my +opk (CD13),
    I USED REAL EGG WHITES!
I don't know if that's what did it but I'm thinking it was!!!
So here are my temps and symptoms -
which go to show you don't need real high temps on a chart to be pregnant!

  • CD1-7 97.0ish
  • CD8 97.4 (bd)
  • CD9 97.6 (bd)
  • CD10 97.5
  • CD11 97.4 (bd)
  • CD12 97.0
  • CD13 97.6 "O" Day, +opk (bd)
  • 1-3dpo 97.9 (bd CD15)
  • 4-5dpo 98.1
  • 6dpo 97.9 (maybe little implant dip?)
  • 7dpo 98.1
  • 8-9dpo 98.3
  • 10dpo 98.1 (- hpt)
  • 11dpo 98.3 (1+hpt and 1-hpt!?! - 2 diff brands)
  • 12dpo 98.1 (stronger +, two diff brands)

One thing I always loved to read in the success stories were symptoms! So here's mine, albeit weird ones!

  • From 1-7dpo, I had cramping. Kind of like quick stabbing cramps that would come and go. Appetite increased majorly - hungry almost all the time. My growling stomach would wake me up at night!
  • 8-12dpo, the muscles in my legs were paining. Like I had just run a marathon the night before. And then my feet started getting sore. This gave me hope as I had a lot of foot pain during my last pregnancy...
  • 11dpo I had a major sore lower back. And I've been feeling "physically" tired. I couldn't wait to sit down but once I was sitting or laying, I could watch tv or read for hours! I had absolutely no change in my bbs - i kept watching and waiting but nada! No heartburn either. For a couple of days, I had really dry eyes...?! My CP was different this month, either high or medium-high and usually soft or medium-soft. On 7dpo, I noticed it turn kinda mushy. CM was nothing out of the ordinary, 10-11dpo had some thick yellowish discharge.

Wow - sorry this is so long but I know there are people out there who want to know the details!! My EDD is on my ds 7th birthday!
This pregnancy almost didn't come to be - my dh told me at the start of this cycle that he wanted to rethink the whole child#3 thing - that maybe we shouldn't pursue it. So I told him that for one last cycle we would pray to God and put things in his hands. If its something that is meant to be for us, then it will happen. If it doesn't, then I would agree that we would take a break - maybe permanently. I did not want to bring a child into the world if it wasn't something we didn't both want. So I prayed to God and here I am, writing my success story!
Positive thoughts to you all! And remember that positive prayer really does work!

  • HELLO, MY NAME IS ANGEL AND IRONICALLY ON SEPT.11, 2001, I LOST MY THIRD CHILD.
I WAS IN MONTH THREE OF MY PREGNANCY.
WELL, THE DOCTOR FOUND OUT LATER IT WAS DUE TO MY PROGESTERONE LEVEL BEING TO LOW.
    NOW IT'S APRIL 29, 2002 AND I'M PREGNANT AGAIN!
I'M NAUSEATED, SORE BREASTS, TIRED AND CRANKY AND LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT!
THE DOCTOR HAS ME ON 50MG PROGESTERONE EVERY DAY,
DEFINITELY THE PRENATAL VITAMINS, AND STRANGE ENOUGH, 1 BABY ASPRIN.
HE SAID THE ASPRIN WOULD KEEP MY BLOOD VESSELS FROM CONSTRICTING IN MY UTERUS,
THUS HELPING TO PREVENT MISCARRIAGE. THAT WAS BECAUSE I'M ALSO RH NEGATIVE, I BELIEVE.
BUT THIS PREGNANCY IS GOING WONDERFULLY!
NO CRAMPING, AND THE BABY HAD A FABULOUS HEARTBEAT LAST WEEK ON SONO!!
I GO AGAIN THIS WEEK AND I'M SURE IT'S GOING TO BE JUST FINE!
THIS IS JUST A REMINDER FOR ALL THE HIGH RISK LADIES NOT TO EVER GIVE UP!
AFTER LOSING THREE BABIES, I ALMOST GAVE UP. NO! W LOOK...I'M DOING GREAT!
THIS BABY IS THE PRIZE! DO NOT GIVE UP!
    GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE:
    ANGEL

    Momma Kath,
Thank you so much for this website, and all of the support you give to so many. I have not gone to the doctor yet, but since last night I have taken 3
pregnancy test, and they have been +++++ almost immediately. First thing
Monday morning I will call for an appointment so it can be confirmed.
Reading everyones journals was so nice in the year it has taken us to
    (hopefully successfully) conceived.
    Thanks again,
    MollyB

    Had being ttc for 11mths.
Bought fertitily monitor on the 8mth. Went to an infertility specialist for infertily testing and had a HSG,PCT, and all the blood work done. Dh had s/a done also. All test came back good. I decided to go see an RE just because the doctor we were seeing, I had concerns (long story). When we went to the RE at our 11mth he wanted to use this month as a testing month. More blood work and he performed PCT. The RE told me to quit making it my job to get pg it was his job now. That kind off took alot off my mind. The next cycle we were going to try clomid with HCG shot. I could not wait for AF. I even went and got my clomid. I saw my peak day on cd17. We bd on cd14,16,17,18,19, wow! I took and early response HPT and got a faint line! I took one again 4hrs later and another faint line. I went in the next day for blood test to confirm and it was postive, we were finally pg!! I thought! this day would never come. We had 11furstrating months but it was all worth it.

Symptoms: No spotting, My cm was sticky/lotion like and I also notice more of it and on cd 28 I notice yellow and ew mixture while going to the bathroom,no cramping until 11dpo. It was really weird this month because my bb's were more sore last month then right now. Today is 13dpo and I still have mild cramping and feel tight and warm down in my midsection. I really had no clue I would be pg this month! Finally.

    Hello Momma Kath!
I know that I have not been vocal on this site before,
but I wanted to let you know what a comfort it has been for me
these past two years to know that I could come to this website
and not be alone. I could read that the insensitive things
people were saying to me were being said to others as well.
I don't want to flaunt my happiness at someone who is still heartbroken
but I do want to share with you that I am finally pregnant!
I'm 12 weeks and I heard the heartbeat today and it was such a wonderful thing!
And I just wanted to let you know and to say thank you for all the encouraging tips and stories.
    Thanks!!

    Bonny S.
